Sólo una pequeña parte de la comunicación entre las personas se produce a través del lenguaje oral y escrito. El resto lo realizamos a través de gestos, expresiones, silencios..., que pueden llegar a transmitir de un modo más intenso que las palabras. 

Con su cámara el fotógrafo puede captar esos gestos y reflejar la energía interior de la gente a la que fotografía. La película se convierte en el medio que permite explorar la personalidad de esas personas, aunque sólo los buenos retratos darán respuesta a la pregunta de quiénes somos. Lograr capturar esa energía, nuestra fuerza interior, convierte al retrato en la disciplina más difícil de la fotografía. 

Only a small part of the communication between people occurs through oral and written language. The rest takes place, consciously or not, through gestures, expressions, silences..., which can convey more intensely than the words themselves. 

With his camera the photographer is able to capture these gestures and reflect the inner energy of the people he portrays. The camera roll becomes the means that allows us to have a glance at people’s personalities, although only good portraits will answer the question of who we are. Capturing that energy, our inner strength, makes portrait the most difficult discipline in photography. 

A photo, like any other material object, has the ability to go through time without being altered. The color of the paper on which it was printed may have varied, the ink may have lost some of its original strength, and small age spots may now show up, but what has been shot remains reflected as it was at the time the photo was taken 

On the contrary, we, our face, our body, are subjected to permanent change over the years. Only photography has the ability to “capture” us at a particular moment, freezing an instant of our evolution as people. 

For On The Inside, Eloy Taboada has photographed more than 120 surfers from all over the world, during a time frame that has exceeded 10 years. This series of portraits was made during the years 2006, 2009, 2010, 2014 and 2019 in the surf championship of the World Surf Circuit Pantin Classic (Pantín, Valdoviño).
